Autobiographical Note
I met Maharaj in May, 1999, when he was giving talks in Marin County, California. When I saw him enter the room that first evening, I had a very strong feeling that he would be my final teacher. He gave me initiation and, without any hesitation, I left the spiritual school I had been with for twenty years. In December that year, I traveled to Bombay to see him in his own place. When I saw Maharaj, he was in Andheri, in the suburbs, giving a talk in Marathi to his Indian devotees. That same night, a profound awakening occured. I was convinced that it was Self-realization but when I talked to Maharaj about it, he told me, quite rightly, that it was only an experience. I left Bombay two weeks later and I never saw him again. Although I returned to Bombay the following December, Maharaj had already completed his rôle a few weeks earlier. It was another year and a half before the actual (and much less dramatic) realization took place, and put an end to the spiritual search, in July 2002. Read longer version..
